Day 19

Apr 26, 2024

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. Matthew 14:28-29

In 2019, I was at a crossroads in my life professionally and personally. I knew the only way I was going to make it through this season was prayer. As I was praying, I heard the Lord say, “fast sugar.” This wasn’t the clear answer I was hoping to get about my next career move. The more I prayed, I couldn’t shake that answer. I had a choice, I could ignore the response I heard and keep looking for the answer I wanted, or I could obey. I chose to obey.

Fasting sugar wasn’t the answer to the issues in my life. It didn’t solve the difficulties I was facing at work or at home. However, obedience to the Lord was. While I fasted, my obedience grew. When I heard God speak, I obeyed instantly. On the other side of that fast, I was reminded that it’s not about getting my answer, or clarity, often, it’s simply about obedience. Am I willing to obey the Lord, even when it doesn’t make sense? I love Peter’s willingness to get out of the boat. He was probably scared and confused, but he was obedient when Jesus said, “Come.” It took courage for him to move when the rest of the disciples stayed.

What is your next step of obedience? How is Jesus calling you out of the boat? Take the next step today. Don’t delay obedience anymore!

Reflection: Obedience doesn’t always make sense to us or those around us. It requires courage and boldness to do the things God is asking us to do.
