Strengthen Day 18 - Wednesday, March 16, 2022
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And He delights in his way. Psalms 37:23
As a member of God’s “team,” you may find yourself doing things that don’t make sense to the world’s logic but turn out to be rather amazing in the end. I had one such experience concerning American Girl Dolls that surprised me and showed the heart of God in the care of even the littlest things in life, for the littlest people. If you don’t have a young girl in your life, you may have missed the craze of owning an American Girl doll. These dolls are prized possessions, and each doll has their own story and history, complete with beautifully made clothing and accessories. In my own family, we were part of the American Girl Doll craze. But when a new Pastor and his family arrived in our town, that changed.
My daughter had received Bitty Twin American Girl dolls several years before. And while the thought of getting rid of what had become clutter was enticing, these were expensive gifts even though my daughter had outgrown them. But what would my daughter think? How could I give away these expensive, precious gifts, even though they were just sitting in a closet?
The answer from the Lord was strong and clear, as He beckoned me to gift the Bitty Twin dolls to the Pastor’s daughter. Luckily my daughter was in full agreement. With excitement, we packaged up the beautiful dolls and delivered the gift to the new pastor’s family. The girl was clearly thrilled with her new American Girl dolls. But I wasn’t expecting what happened next. The pastor’s wife, with tears in her eyes and amazement in her face approached me and said “You’d never know this, but my daughter has been asking for Bitty Twins exactly like the ones you gave her and we have not been able to purchase them. She is beyond thrilled and we are so very grateful!! You heard the leading of the Holy Spirit. We can’t thank you enough.” We hugged and laughed at God’s goodness. It is such a delight to participate in blessing God’s kids, even if it seemed ‘illogical’ according to the world’s thinking. Fact is, it is very exciting and satisfying to be partners with God. I am so glad we were part of His plan. We learned important lessons that day in following His leading and sharing a blessing and the satisfaction we gained is unmatched and cannot be bought in any store.
Reflection:
What can you do to help God’s people? What is the Lord asking you to give away? What will it cost you?
