Day 5
Moses has one of the most exciting stories we see throughout Scripture. If we’re honest, Moses grew up on 3rd base in every sense of the phrase. He was a prince in Pharoah’s house with a deep, rich Israelite heritage. He had all of the education of Egypt and the imparted faith of Israel. But when we find Moses in Exodus 3, he’s not taking advantage of the Egyptian perks, and he’s not engaged with his spiritual heritage.
But this is where God speaks to him.
The dialogue is interesting because Moses hears God and responds, but probably more importantly, God acknowledges, admits, and addresses the reality that God has heard Moses and the Israelites.
Have you ever been in a situation where you just wanted assurance that God heard you? I think we all do because life is hard! Life uniquely makes us realize how unfair it can be. We weep over our situation. We yell out in frustration about our situation. We see no movement and then begin to wonder if God hears us.
The answer is yes. Not only does God hear you, but He’s coming to respond. The question is, what will your response be when God calls your name?
God will call you by your name, which will not be attached to our situation and shortcomings. The Lord didn’t call out to Moses by what got him to the desert. He called him by his name.
He knows your name, and He’s speaking to you about your role in the vision and plan for His people.
Reflection:
How do you respond to God when He calls you by name?
Have you felt disqualified from His call because of your situation?
