Day 9: What's Holding You up
I remember learning about the fight-or-flight response. I was in anatomy and physiology class in college. The professor taught us about the body's response to situations and how fear drives us to fight or flight. He would then call on us randomly to answer questions on material we had never learned. This process demonstrated fight or flight. Some would sit quietly looking at the professor with no response and fear in their eyes, while others would talk about anything just to answer the question. Fear motivates a response in our life that sends us into fight or flight mode. When we allow fear to control us our response will not be from a place of strength but a place of weakness. We will either withdraw (flight) or press in (fight). Isaiah reminds us to not fear but to rely on the hand of God to strengthen us. When God’s hand holds us up it doesn’t matter what comes our way- the response will be from His strength and not from our fear.
